SPS Scan

SPS Scan is a powerful tool for screening, informing interviews and building awareness during role transitions. SPS Scan is crafted with items that are most sensitive to 30 behavioural risks.

These risks are the most common reasons for failure or new performers, managers and individuals' ability to adapt under duress. These risks are organised into five themes or clusters which are well known five factors of maladaptive personality.

Simple and easy to use

SPS Scan offers simple reports and clear risk indicators which are easy to use. Often individuals need little to no training to start using the instrument. The reports are designed to be visually attractive and quick to read. If you have 20 candidates to go through in a day, you would prefer our reports that are easy to understand and quick to glance through.

Quick to complete

The SPS Scan has 54 questions with average candidate completion time at 12-15 minutes. Each item is scientifically identified and screened for its sensitivity to mal adaptive patterns which means candidates don't have to answer any question that will not provide relevant information. SPS Scan uses rigorous item screening with multi-dimensional IRT to squeeze maximum predictive information in as few items as possible. Shorter questionnaire ultimately also means better candidate experience.

Distortion Detection

SPS Scan has to offer the most sophisticated response detection for an instrument of its kind. SPS Scan reports 5 validity indicators which can in the hands of a trained practitioner help identify distorted responses. SPS Scan has been tested in fake good and fake bad study as well. We found that the scores reported did not change much beyond the standard error of emasurem

More Information About SPS Scan

What is SPS Scan?

SPS Scan is a 54 item (44 free rating and 10 forced choice) survey designed to identify maladaptive patterns that constitute workplace risk. These risks are hard to train for or coach for in the short term, hence their relevance to hiring process in organisations.

What does SPS Scan measure?

SPS Scan measures 30 Risks organized in 5 maladaptive themes. You may access the scales and their definitions in the SPS Scan Factsheet. These Risks are universal in nature but may be more or less relevant depending on a role. E.g. for an artist "low productivity" risk may not be an issue while for a call centre executive it is likely to be a critical one.

What does SPS Scan report?

SPS Scan has 2 reports to offer:

  1. SPS Scan Risk Profile (Sample): A simple report with 5 validity scales and 30 Risks classified as low, moderate, high and very high risk.
  2. SPS Scan Interpretive Profile (Sample): An interpretive report with 5 validity scales and 30 Risks with an indicator of level of risk. This is accompanied with interpretive comments and self-reflection questions for each of the identified risk areas.
Is a certification necessary?

While we strongly recommend certification, the Risk Profile is available to non-certified individuals. Interpretive report is only available to qualified individuals who can demonstrate skill in application of the report. For information around certification please contact us.

Can SPS Scan be used for screening?

Yes, most certainly. You may use the report for volume screening should you have clear role requirements available and mapped to the 30 risk areas . In absence of high volume, candidates should be screened by using them to inform the screening interview. (Refer to the SPS Scan Recruitment Guide)

Can SPS Scan be used for coaching?

Yes, you may use SPS Scan for coaching depending on the context. The SPS Scan be used to manage derailment risk in new roles, transitions, high stake projects and in general talent management contexts. For best impact we recommend that SPS Scan be complemented with a more positive and strength based tool like SPS Max.

How reliable and valid is SPS Scan?

SPS Scan is tested for reliability through multiple studies including, internal consistency, correlations with SPS-130/MAX and test-retest reliability studies. Validity has been ascertained by observing SPS Scan Risk correlations with 15 other instruments and great eight workplace performance ratings. Further evidence can be acquired by fake-good-fake-bad studies. You may find documentation of this in the SPS Scan Guidebook
